2015: Sunderland appoint Allardyce
Sam Allardyce became Sunderland manager in October 2015, taking over from Dick Advocaat.
With the Black Cats sat in 19th place after eight matches, Allardyce guided Sunderland to safety, inspired by Jermain Defoe, who scored 15 goals in 33 appearances.
Allardyce departed the Stadium of Light in July 2016 to become England manager.
