Not only are Liverpool the Premier League top scorers in 2016/17, but Jurgen Klopp's side are on target to beat the competition's record for the most goals scored in a season.

In the 11 matches the Reds have played in this campaign they have hit the back of the net on 30 occasions, four more than next most prolific side, Chelsea.

This is nine goals short of the most scored after 11 matches, when Manchester City hit 39 at the same stage in 2011/12 on their way to the title.

Should Liverpool continue to score at their current rate of 2.7 goals per match for the rest of the season they would have 104 goals, one more than Chelsea achieved on the way to the title in 2009/10.

Most goals in a season

Season Club Total goals Goals after 11 matches Champions
2009/10 Chelsea 103 28 Chelsea
2013/14 Man City 102 28 Man City
2013/14 Liverpool 101 21 Man City
1999/00 Man Utd 97 31 Man Utd
2011/12 Man City 93 39 Man City
2016/17 Liverpool ? 30 ?

Although there is a long way to go, Klopp's men will be buoyed by the fact they have travelled to four of the current top-six placed teams, apart from Manchester City.

There is also little to suggest that the Merseysiders' goals will start drying up, as they have had a PL-high 10 different goalscorers this season.

Most encouraging of all for Liverpool fans is that on only two occasions have a side scored 30 or more goals after their first 11 PL matches and failed to clinch the title.

On both occasions that club were Arsenal, in 2004/05 and in 2009/10, and each time they were beaten to first place by Chelsea.
