Sunderland v Hull City

Match preview

16 Nov 2016
Will Keane, Hull City

Shaun Maloney is unavailable with a back injury but Hull City have reported no other issues following the international break.

Long-term absentees Moses Odubajo (knee), Alex Bruce, Andrew Robertson (both calf), Abel Hernandez (groin) and Will Keane (knee) are still sidelined. Adama Diomande is suspended.

Lee Cattermole has undergone hip surgery and will be out for a minimum of four months for Sunderland. Fabio Borini (groin) and Jack Rodwell (hamstring) are also injured.

Victor Anichebe (rib) should be fit to play but Steven Pienaar is suspended. The match will come too early for Jan Kirchhoff, who is back in training.

Did you know?

After four successive Premier League wins over Hull City between 2008 and 2010, Sunderland have not won any of their last four against the Tigers (D1 L3).

Jermain Defoe’s next goal will be his 150th in the Premier League; should he score he would become the eighth player to reach this landmark.

Sunderland need one more point to surpass 600 in the Premier League.

Mike Phelan’s side are looking to win successive PL matches for the first time since August, while David Moyes is searching for consecutive wins for the first time since April 2014.

What the managers say

Mike Phelan: “It’s a good game for both clubs on Saturday. We’ve prepared the best we possibly can. The aim is to get another positive result.”
