Michael Olise scored the only goal as Reading won at Newcastle United in Premier League 2 Division 2.
The hosts had the best chance of the first half but Tom Allan could only shoot against the post when through on goal.
Reading went in front on 50 minutes as 17-year-old Olise fired beyond goalkeeper Jake Turner.
Newcastle thought they had equalised late on but Oisin McEntee's header from Jamie Sterry's cross was ruled out for offside.
Reading move up to sixth, three places and three points above the Magpies.
