Burnley are on a five-match unbeaten run and can move level on points with sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a rare win at St James' Park.

Newcastle United are four matches without a victory but are only six points behind their in-form visitors.

Team news

Newcastle could be boosted by the return of Jonjo Shelvey and Javier Manquillo (both hamstring). But Andy Carroll (hip), Paul Dummett (tendon) and Ciaran Clark (ankle) are out.

Valentino Lazaro serves a one-match ban following his red card at Crystal Palace last weekend.

Chris Wood has returned to training and could be available for Burnley. However the Clarets are without Matt Lowton (knee) and Ashley Barnes (groin), while Johann Berg Gudmondsson (knock) is being assessed.

Did you know?

Newcastle have not lost a home league match against Burnley since April 1976, winning three and drawing three since.

Following their 1-0 victory in December, Burnley are looking to complete a league double over Newcastle for the first time since 1960/61, when the Clarets were the reigning champions.

Excluding penalties, no team have scored a higher share of their goals this season from set-pieces than Newcastle's 50 per cent. However, Burnley have conceded a league-low five per cent of their 2019/20 goals from such situations.

Matej Vydra has scored in back-to-back Premier League matches, having netted only once in his previous 24 with West Bromwich Albion, Watford and Burnley. He last scored in three consecutive league appearances in November 2017 with Derby in the Championship.
