Fantasy Premier League managers who captained Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) were left disappointed after he could not deliver attacking returns against Manchester City on Thursday night.

Salah was the No 1 captain pick for the 11th time this season, a record for 2019/20, but the 1.1m owners who did so will be frustrated as he hit the post early on and could only claim two points in his side's 4-0 defeat.

The second most popular captaincy choice, Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m), rewarded the faith of the Fantasy Premier League managers who overlooked his recent blanks.

More than 823,000 FPL managers trusted him with the armband against Norwich City and he fully repaid that faith on Wednesday, registering two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win.

He also secured the maximum bonus, delivering a huge total of 32 points with the armband.

Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m) was backed by 686,000 managers for the captaincy and he delivered, with a goal and an assist handing him 14 points.

Aubameyang was also the second-most popular choice among FPL's top 100 managers.

And with both Raul Jimenez (£8.3m) and Marcus Rashford (£9.1m) blanking in Gameweek 32+, the high-flying managers who picked the Arsenal forward could shoot even further up the ranking.

The new owners of Rashford and Anthony Martial (£8.2m) were left frustrated on Tuesday as the Manchester United pair failed to produce attacking returns despite helping the Red Devils to a 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Martial racked up a season-high 21 points in his previous Premier League outing against Sheffield United, while Rashford collected nine points thanks to two assists.

As a result, the pair were the most-bought players for Gameweek 32+.

But they were eclipsed by team-mates Bruno Fernandes (£8.8m) and Mason Greenwood (£4.3m), who delivered 15 and 12 points respectively.

It is the 15th time the most popular Gameweek signing has blanked this season.

Jimenez's off-day at Aston Villa on Saturday was also disappointing for the 209,000+ Fantasy managers who brought the Wolverhampton Wanderers striker in for Gameweek 32+.

Only Jack Grealish (£6.2m) has suffered more sales than the injured Sergio Aguero (£11.7m).

And the 226,000+ who parted company with the Villa captain will be feeling vindicated in their decision after he blanked for the sixth time in a row in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

Meanwhile, more than 175,000 managers lost patience with Jamie Vardy (£9.8m) and moved him on before the Gameweek 32+ deadline.

They will also feel they made the right decision as the Leicester City striker blanked at Everton on Wednesday. He has scored only twice since Gameweek 18.
