Sam Greenwood has been named the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September.
The 18-year-old Leeds United striker won the award after scoring four goals in his opening three Division 2 matches, following a summer move from Arsenal.
His first strike came in a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, and in the following match he hit a hat-trick as Leeds beat Sunderland 3-1 for their first win of the season.
"I'm delighted with the award," said Greenwood. "I think I did well for the start of my Leeds journey and hopefully I can just carry that on from now."
Gelling with Gelhardt
Greenwood puts his standout display against Sunderland down to a fine team performance and a growing understanding with strike partner Joe Gelhardt.
"[A hat-trick] against my old club, I did well and the lads did well as well," said the teenager. "It was a great team performance and we need to keep pushing as a team. That's the most important thing.
"I knew 'Joffy' [Gelhardt] for a while before I came here with the England set-up and we work together really well. We’re good friends on and off the pitch so we just need to keep going."
Greenwood's second goal v Sunderland
Greenwood was picked from a seven-man shortlist which also featured Scott Banks, Josh Bowler, Mitchell Clark, Brooklyn Lyons-Foster, James McAtee and Liam Millar.
