Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have a chance to rewrite the record books after teaming up to devastating effect again in Sunday's north London derby.
Kane's pass released Son as the South Korean broke away to score a sublime opening goal, and the roles were then reversed as Son set up Kane in the 2-0 home win over Arsenal.
The pair have now assisted 11 goals for each other this season, with those combinations accounting for almost half of the league leaders' total of 23 strikes.
Kane and Son are now closing in on the record for the most goal combinations between two players in Premier League history, having laid on 31 strikes for each other overall.
On Sunday they moved clear of the iconic partnerships of Thierry Henry and Robert Pires and also Sergio Aguero and David Silva.
And the dynamic duo need only five more to equal the record held by Chelsea greats Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.
Most PL goal combinations
Players | Goal combinations |
---|---|
Drogba/Lampard | 36 |
Kane/Son | 31 |
Aguero/David Silva | 29 |
Henry/Pires | 29 |
Anderton/Sheringham | 27 |
At their current rate, Kane and Son are well on course to reach the No 1 spot this season.
After all, Kane has reached 10 assists in just 11 Premier League matches in 2020/21, a feat that only Arsenal's Mesut Ozil has previously achieved, while Son is the competition's second-highest scorer with 10 goals.
The Spurs team-mates also look set to smash the record for the most goal combinations in a single campaign.
Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton currently hold that honour after combining for 13 goals with Blackburn Rovers in 1994/95.
And, enticingly for Kane and Son, Blackburn won the title that season with that prolific strike partnership.
