In order to finish the season in fourth place Arsenal require a combination of a home win over Everton with victory for Norwich City over Tottenham Hotspur at Carrow Road. Spurs are two points ahead of the Gunners with a +15 goal difference, which means even a draw with the Canaries would require a record margin of victory by their north London rivals to be pipped to the last UEFA Champions League place. The Gunners are guaranteed at least a fifth-placed finish.

Arsenal are unbeaten in their final league match in each of the last 16 seasons (W14 D2), winning the last 10 in a row. When finishing a league season at home, the Gunners have won each of their last 12 matches since a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in 1992/93.

Everton have earned four points from their last two away league matches, double the amount they had in their previous 14 on the road (D2 L12). The Toffees have also lost four of their five league contests in London this season, the exception being a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

Bukayo Saka has played every Premier League match for Arsenal this season, and (at 20y 259d on the day of this match) would be the second youngest player to play every fixture in a full PL campaign for the Gunners, after Cesc Fabregas in 2006/07.

Everton won this exact fixture last season, ending a 24-match winless run away against Arsenal in the league. They last won consecutive top-flight visits against the Gunners in March 1987.
