Sunderland earned a 2-2 draw against Derby County after being 2-0 down at iPro Stadium, which secured the point they needed to reach the quarter-finals of the Premier League International Cup.
The Black Cats went into the match three points ahead of Derby at the top of Group A, knowing that a draw would take them into the next round.
Calum MacDonald's strike and an own goal by Josh Robson put the Rams in control at half-time, before Andrew Nelson's effort and a late own goal by Cameron Cresswell put Sunderland through.
