Red Bull Arena is one three stadiums named after the energy drink company, with the other two located in Leipzig, Germany, and Salzburg, Austria.
The arena is structured to create a distinct soccer atmosphere as fans in the front row are only 21 feet from the touchlines. Its dynamic roof is a curving structure that wraps the entire arena in an elegant metal shell to create an architectural statement of power and elegance.
Soccer History
The 25,000-seated stadium officially opened in March 2010, when the New York Red Bulls defeated Brazilian side Santos 3-1 in front of a sold-out crowd.
New York Red Bulls' first official league match was the 2010 MLS season opener against Chicago Fire, winning 1-0.
Manchester United were the first Premier League team to play at the arena, competing in the 2011 MLS All-Star Game. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have played at the stadium since.
Red Bull Arena has also hosted international soccer fixtures, as well as college and high-school matches.
Notable Events
Despite being purpose-built for soccer, the arena has hosted concerts, community events, lacrosse and rugby union events.
The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) held five matches over the course of two weekends in 2019, drawing in a single-day attendance PLL record total of 10,572 fans.
Rugby union was the first non-football sport to take place at Red Bull Arena, with three international matches in June 2010. History was made in March 2016 when the first-ever overseas English Premiership rugby match was held at Red Bull Arena.
