Monday's 4-3 loss at Nottingham Forest leaves Southampton six points adrift at the foot of the table with only three matches remaining.

With a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion and a home match against Liverpool still to come, a win against Fulham is essential for Ruben Selles’ side.

Adams’ output in recent outings at St Mary’s Stadium certainly offers encouragement.

He has blanked in only one of his last three home starts, earning returns in a 1-0 win over Leicester City and a 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

The underlying numbers back up the forward’s threat.

Adams' totals of eight shots and seven shots in the box in his last four matches are both more than any other Southampton player.

Fulham, meanwhile, have a poor recent record in defence.

They are without a clean sheet in 11 matches and have conceded at least twice on five of those occasions, including their 5-3 win over Leicester last time out.

As Southampton’s main goal threat, Adams can profit from those weaknesses and give his side hope in the relegation fight on Saturday.
