Goals from Ethan Robson and Elliot Embleton ensured Sunderland became the first team to reach the Premier League International Cup semi-finals with victory over 10-man Athletic Club Bilbao.
The Spanish side started strongly at the Stadium of Light and threatened through Iker Hernandez but Robson broke the deadlock in the 25th minute.
Embleton's strike from 25 yards doubled the lead after the break and hopes of a Bilbao comeback were hit when Inigo Cordoba was sent off.
