Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane scored as Manchester City returned to third position in the Premier League with a 2-0 success against Sunderland.

After Jermain Defoe hit the post from distance for bottom club Sunderland, Aguero deftly flicked the ball over Jordan Pickford to open the scoring on 42 minutes.

Sane doubled City’s advantage when he hit the inside of Pickford’s post after David Silva’s pass just before the hour mark.

Late on, Defoe had a goal disallowed for offside and Aguero was denied by a fine save from the Black Cats goalkeeper.
