Kelly Somers and The FPL Pod panel pick their best 15-man squad for the 2022/23 Fantasy Premier League season.

fpl 22/23 squad of the season
David Raya (BRE)

"To top the points rankings for goalkeepers is amazing considering [the form of] Alisson, Ederson, Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope. It also shows the incredible season that Brentford had as a whole." Julien Laurens (@LaurensJulien)

Nick Pope (NEW)

"That Newcastle United defence in the first half [of the season] was so good, whether it was Sven Botman, Fabian Schar or Kieran Trippier. A lot of us went with Pope in goal. He was really good." Harry Daniels (@FPL_Harry)

Kieran Trippier (NEW)

"For him to come back to England after his time in Spain, with everything that he brought to Newcastle in terms of leadership, but also on the pitch in FPL, to be on set-pieces and the incredible run they had. In the second half of the season, they were maybe not as strong defensively, but overall, he got the most points of all the defenders." Julien Laurens (@LaurensJulien)

Trent Alexander-Arnold (LIV)

"Up until the latter part of the season, I wouldn't have had him in there. But the last few weeks since moving into that midfield position, he was so good for those attacking returns again, and we started to see bonus points creep back into his game. While we didn't have good levels of clean sheets from Liverpool this season, he did enough in to be in this team." Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily)

William Saliba (ARS)

"When [William] Saliba wasn’t there, Arsenal struggled to replace him. When he got injured towards the end of the season they were maybe not as good. For me, Saliba deserves to be in there, and lets not forget it was his first season in the Premier League. He still produced 117 points despite missing out the last two months." Julien Laurens (@LaurensJulien)

Pervis Estupinan (BHA)

"That 17-pointer for Estupinan at Arsenal as part of a Double Gameweek 36 clinched it for Estupinan over someone like [Tyrone] Mings." Harry Daniels (@FPL_Harry)

Luke Shaw (MUN)

"He was a bonus point magnet even when he was playing at centre-back." Kelly Somers (@KellySomers)

Mohamed Salah (LIV)

"It was a poor season by Salah’s standards, but he was still the highest-scoring midfielder in the game. In the last 10 Gameweeks or so, we saw him back at his best." Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily)

Marcus Rashford (MUN)

"He was incredible in the second half of the season. I can’t look past the way he helped Manchester United get into the top four." Harry Daniels (@FPL_Harry)

Kaoru Mitoma (BHA)

"We highlighted him after the World Cup and I hope the listeners listened as there was a time to put him. When we needed a Brighton & Hove Albion player, he was there." Julien Laurens (@LaurensJulien)

Gabriel Martinelli (ARS)

"Martinelli was injured at the end of the season, but in terms of value for money, for me, he provided more than most other midfielders." Kelly Somers (@KellySomers)

Bukayo Saka (ARS)

"Martinelli, Saka and [Martin] Odegaard all made the top-five midfielder point scorers. Saka was the most consistent over the season." Kelly Somers (@KellySomers)

Erling Haaland (MCI)

"He took the Premier League by storm. He took FPL by storm. He took the captaincy by storm." Kelly Somers (@KellySomers)

Harry Kane (TOT)

"So many of us went without Kane, and for him to get 30 goals, he has been the best differential ever." Harry Daniels (@FPL_Harry)

Ollie Watkins (AVL)

"Watkins has been more consistent than Callum Wilson this season. If you were looking for somebody that brought a real consistency over for a long period of time, then Watkins was the one to go with." Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily)
