“I wanted to be in [from] the first day of pre-season, so it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my team-mates.

“It was a fantastic year for me – World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton – but now it’s time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.”

Mac Allister moves after a stellar season at Brighton, scoring 10 goals in 35 Premier League matches, helping them to qualify for Europe for the first time in their history.

He also starred at the FIFA World Cup 2022 for Argentina, starting in all but one match on their way to winning the tournament in Qatar.

Liverpool finished fifth in 2022/23, missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification for the first time since 2016, and will compete alongside Brighton in the UEFA Europa League next season.

Liverpool will find out who they will be facing next season when the 2023/24 Premier League fixtures are released at 09:00 BST on 15 June. The season will return on the weekend of 12 August, only 65 days away.

They start their pre-season matches in Germany, against Karlsruher on 19 July.
