With title rivals Manchester City beating Newcastle United 2-0 earlier in the day, Arsenal were under pressure to secure three points against relegation-battling AFC Bournemouth.
But they suffered a nightmare start, falling behind after only 9.1 seconds to a Philip Billing goal, the second-quickest in the competition's history, before Marcos Senesi doubled their tally midway through the second half.
Arsenal pulled one back through Thomas Partey, before an inspired substitution changed the match.
Reiss Nelson produced an assist for Ben White's equaliser a minute after being sent on, before scoring a dramatic winner in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
The goal sent fans and players inside Emirates Stadium wild and moved Arsenal five points clear of Man City.
This result would also earn Nelson the 2022/23 Castrol Game Changer of the Season award.

Arsenal travelled to Anfield with a torrid record, having not won at Liverpool since September 2012. They produced a great start thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus inside the opening 30 minutes.
But the Reds, as they often have done at home, produced a stirring comeback that dented their opponents' title hopes.
Mohamed Salah converted from close range to reduce the deficit before half-time.
Salah then missed a penalty in the second half, but Roberto Firmino came on to score yet another goal against Arsenal as Liverpool threatened to earn all three points.
Aaron Ramsdale had to produce outstanding saves to deny first Salah and then Ibrahima Konate in the dying minutes of a thrilling encounter to preserve a point for Arsenal.
