The triumph in Istanbul followed Man City's Premier League and FA Cup successes in 2022/23, making them only the second team to win all three competitions, after Manchester United in 1998/99.

City's win also completed a Premier League European Double, coming four days after West Ham United earned a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the UEFA Europa Conference League final. It was the Hammers' first major trophy for 43 years.
