West Ham United began their tour of Australia with a convincing 6-2 win over Perth Glory.

Jarrod Bowen grabbed a double, with the other goals coming through a Darryl Lachman own goal, Gianluca Scamacca's penalty, Emerson and Divin Mubama.

The performance of Mubama will be of interest to Fantasy Premier League managers, with the £4.5m budget forward impressing after coming on as a half-time substitute.

Next up for West Ham is a meeting with rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday in Perth.

Watkins on the scoresheet

Ollie Watkins scored a penalty, but Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw at Walsall in their first pre-season outing.

Head coach Unai Emery handed minutes to 22 players, including Matty Cash, Douglas Luiz and Ezri Konsa, but summer signings Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres were not named in the squad.

England trio return for Palace

Roy Hodgson welcomed back a number of his international players for Crystal Palace's friendly against Danish side Brondby.

Sam Johnstone, Chris Richards, Cheick Doucoure and Eberechi Eze were all named in the starting XI, while Marc Guehi and Jordan Ayew came on as second-half substitutes.

Palace twice took the lead, through Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Jean-Philippe Mateta, but were pegged back on both occasions as it ended 2-2 at the Crystal Palace Academy.

Magpies recover to win

Newcastle United got their pre-season under way with a 3-2 comeback victory at Gateshead.

Eddie Howe's side were two-nil down at half-time, but goals from Elliot Anderson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Jay Turner-Cooke secured the turnaround victory.

Among the young players to feature for Newcastle was Jamie Miley, who came on in the second half to make his first appearance for the club debut alongside brother Lewis, who made his Premier League debut in the 1-1 draw at Chelsea on the final day of last season.

Strong Forest side taste victory

Over 6,000 Nottingham Forest fans were in attendance to watch their side kick off their preparations for the new season with a 1-0 triumph against rivals Notts County at Meadow Lane.

Steve Cooper named a strong starting XI featuring Neco Williams, Joe Worrall, Orel Mangala, Moussa Niakhate, Remo Freuler and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Forward Hwang Ui-jo, who joined Forest last summer but spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Olympiacos and FC Seoul, scored the only goal within 30 seconds of the second half starting.

McBurnie inspires Sheff Utd

Second-half goals by Iliman Ndiaye and Ben Osborn helped promoted Sheffield United to a 2-0 win at Chesterfield.

Oliver McBurnie came off the bench to play a part in both goals, cleverly dummying Sander Berge's pass for Ndiaye to open the scoring before teeing up Osborn for the second.
