Brighton & Have Albion have signed centre-back Igor Julio from Fiorentina, subject to international clearance and a work visa.

The 25-year-old Brazilian has agreed a four-year deal with Brighton and becomes the club's fifth summer acquisition.

“I want to be here to play for the coach that wanted me and the style of play at Brighton also fits well with my own style,” Julio told the club’s official website.

“It’s a childhood dream to play in the Premier League, I’m very excited. It’s always been my goal to play here. I’m really happy to reach this level.

“I can’t wait to train and play for Roberto. He’s a fantastic coach and I think I can evolve so much under him. I want to become one of the best defenders in the team.”

Julio is expected to link up with his new team-mates next week after the Premier League Summer Series. Brighton are in action later today when they face Brentford in Atlanta.

The defender, who began his professional career in Austria back in 2016, made 42 appearances for Fiorentina in all competitions last season, helping the club reach both the UEFA Europa Conference League final and the Coppa Italia final.
