Simon Adingra put his name in lights after his brilliant double gave Brighton & Hove Albion a 2-0 win over Brentford in Atlanta, their first win of the Premier League Summer Series.
The 21-year-old from Ivory Coast, who spent last season on loan with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, took his chance after being named in the starting line-up by Roberto De Zerbi.
His first was a brilliantly taken strike as he took down a long-range pass from goalkeeper Jason Steele before catching Mark Flekken off guard and curling in from the edge of the box.
Brentford had chances to level, and would have been back on terms if Keane Lewis-Potter's shot wasn't cleared off the line by Joel Veltman.
Adingra scored his second in the 58th minute. He drove into the penalty area before cutting on to his right foot and placing a strike into the far corner of the goal.
Adingra produced 11 goals and nine assists in 30 league matches while on loan last season, and the man who assisted his goal revealed post-match a great story about the up-and-coming star.
"The funny thing is he played for Union in Belgium and we played them in a pre-season friendly and he ripped us apart last season," Steele said after full-time.
"And then we found out later that he is part of us, and he was on loan there, and we were like 'might want to bring him back then'."
Brentford have now tasted defeat in both of their Summer Series encounters, also losing 3-2 to Fulham. Thomas Frank's side will look to change that in their final match, against Aston Villa on Sunday in Landover.
Brighton, who gave Moises Caicedo his first minutes of pre-season, will hope to follow up their win with another victory against Newcastle United in New Jersey on Friday.
