A new era at Tottenham Hotspur began with an entertaining 2-2 draw at Brentford.
In their first Premier League match under head coach Ange Postecoglou and without Harry Kane, Spurs went in front on 11 minutes, with Cristian Romero nodding in debutant James Maddison’s free-kick.
Romero, who had earlier been involved in a clash of heads with Bryan Mbeumo, was then substituted as a precaution.

Spurs' lead only lasted 15 minutes, as Mbeumo converted a penalty awarded following a VAR review, for a foul by new Spurs captain Son Heung-min on Mathias Jensen.
Brentford then took the lead in the 36th minute, with Yoane Wissa’s deflected effort from Rico Henry’s cross leaving Spurs goalkeeper and Premier League debutant Guglielmo Vicario helpless.
A breathless opening 45 minutes took another twist in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time, as Emerson Royal’s low 20-yard drive brought Spurs level from Maddison's second assist.
Both sides continued to push for a winner after the break, with Son and Richarlison, who replaced Kane as Spurs' centre-forward, both unable to provide Postecoglou with the dream start as they were denied by another debutant, Brentford's Mark Flekken.
