West Ham took the lead through Nayef Aguerd's powerful header from James Ward-Prowse’s outswinging corner in the seventh minute.

On his West Ham debut, Ward-Prowse has now produced 25 assists from dead-ball situations in the Premier League, the second most of any player since his debut in the competition in 2012/13, with only Christian Eriksen (29) producing more.

Chelsea grew into the contest and scored a deserved equaliser just before the half-hour mark through Carney Chukwuemeka.

The ball broke to the midfielder in the penalty area and he showed excellent composure to skip past Tomas Soucek before firing a brilliant shot past Alphonse Areola for his first Premier League goal.

Chelsea had a great chance to take the lead before half-time when Raheem Sterling was brought down by Soucek for a penalty.

But Enzo Fernandez's spot-kick was saved by Areola, diving to his right.

West Ham went back in front against the run of play in the 54th minute thanks to a thunderous strike from Michail Antonio.

West Ham’s No 9 showed excellent strength to keep the ball away from Levi Colwill before making his way into the box and finishing into the bottom-left corner.

Ward-Prowse’s pass for Antonio meant he became the first West Ham player to assist two goals on his Premier League debut for the club.

There was another twist, though, as Aguerd went from hero to villain after he was sent off for a second bookable offence following a late challenge on Nicolas Jackson.

Despite dominating possession, with 75.6 per cent, Chelsea were unable to force an equaliser.

It was West Ham who dealt Chelsea the final blow in the fourth minute of stoppage time. British record signing, Moises Caicedo, on as a second-half substitute, fouled Emerson for a penalty.

Lucas Paqueta dispatched his spot-kick to seal West Ham's first win over the Blues since December 2021, and consign Chelsea to a fourth consecutive Premier League London derby defeat for the first time.

Both teams come into this encounter on the back of wins in Matchweek 1.

Palace beat Sheffield United 1-0 and received a further boost this week with Michael Olise signing a new contract.

Arsenal claimed a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest and could hand a debut to new signing David Raya. But they will be without Jurrien Timber, who suffered an ACL injury on the opening weekend.
