“Everyone is happy if they are playing football regularly," Archer told the club's official website. "That's something I want to do now. I think it was important to come here and look for Premier League football, that was key for me because I want to make that next step now and challenge myself. Hopefully I can do that here.
"Sheffield United have a long history of developing players in terms of playing and hopefully making better people as well.”
Born in Walsall, Archer progressed through the ranks at Villa before making his senior debut in an EFL Cup tie against Crewe Alexandra in 2019.
He has enjoyed loan spells at National League side Solihull Moors, along with Preston North End and Middlesbrough in the Championship.

Archer scored 11 goals in 17 starts for Boro in the second half of last season, helping Michael Carrick's men reach the playoffs.
The forward, who will wear the No 10 shirt, was part of the England squad that won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship earlier this summer, scoring two goals.
Sheff Utd are next in action later today when they host champions Manchester City.
