Beto bags debut goal

Everton's new signing Beto stepped off the bench to inspire a 2-1 comeback win as the Toffees edged past League Two side Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Cup second round last night.

Beto, who completed a move from Udinese only 24 hours earlier, was perfectly placed to poke home Abdoulaye Doucoure's 73rd-minute cross. Villarreal loanee Arnaut Danjuma then struck the winner with two minutes remaining for his first goal for Everton.

Chelsea also secured a turnaround win, beating AFC Wimbledon 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. It was a first half of two penalties as the Blues' Noni Madueke cancelled out James Tilley's earlier spot-kick for the visitors.

Substitute Enzo Fernandez secured Chelsea's passage into the third round with a clinical finish 18 minutes from time. It was the Argentinian's first goal for the club.

The City Ground was witness to late drama too, where the night's only all-Premier League tie saw Burnley substitute Zeki Amdouni strike a last-minute winner against Nottingham Forest.

Sheffield United bowed out after losing 3-2 on penalties to League One side Lincoln City.

The Imps, managed by former Manchester City and Liverpool winger Mark Kennedy, held the Blades to 0-0 in normal time, with John Egan missing the decisive spot-kick for Paul Heckingbottom's side.
