Callum Wilson scored the decisive penalty as Newcastle United claimed a morale-boosting victory over Brentford ahead of their first UEFA Champions League match in two decades.
As they prepare to travel to Italy for a mouthwatering duel with AC Milan in the San Siro, the Magpies ended a three-match losing run.

Anthony Gordon was brought down by Mark Flekken just after the hour-mark, and Wilson sent the ball into the top-right corner, capping off a great week on a personal level after he extended his contract on Friday.
Wilson thought he had scored earlier in the contest when he scrambled the ball in from close range, but the strike was ruled out by referee Craig Pawson for a foul on goalkeeper Flekken.
Pawson went on to give the penalty that was converted by Wilson, and he then awarded Newcastle another spot-kick when Bryan Mbeumo was adjudged to have handled the ball, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review.
Brentford will be disappointed in their attacking play against Newcastle, having only registered one shot on target as their unbeaten start to the season comes to an end.
They did however have a great chance to equalise late on through Yoane Wissa, who headed wide from a free-kick.
