How the match unfolded
Arsenal dominated possession for much of the first half and thought they had taken the lead on 19 minutes through Gabriel Martinelli, but his strike was overturned following a VAR review after Eddie Nketiah was offside in the build-up.
Moments after, Martinelli was forced off with a hamstring injury and replaced by Trossard.
David Raya, handed his Arsenal debut by Mikel Arteta in place of Aaron Ramsdale, saved a long-range effort from Arnaut Danjuma, while Ben White tested Jordan Pickford at the other end in a half of few clear-cut chances.
The Gunners made the breakthrough in the 69th minute following a brilliant passing move from a short corner, which culminated in Trossard's first-time finish from Bukayo Saka’s layoff going in off a post.
It is the third successive Premier League match in which Arsenal have had a substitute score for the first time since December 2021.
