Primary school teachers can register for free resources and parents can nominate schools by visiting Premier League Primary Stars
The schoolchildren of Park Walk Primary School Primary School got a lesson they will never forget when Chelsea Football Club Foundation popped in to put on a session in diversity.
Not only did they get to learn about the importance of not judging people by their appearance but they got to hear the message reinforced by none other than Gary Cahill, the Chelsea defender.
"They really enjoyed it, they had a really good time and it really made them think," says Sam Gaskin-Kemp, Schools Education Manager for Chelsea FC Foundation. "He's a hero for most of the children."
Cahill sat down in the class and chatted to the children about the multi-ethnicity of the Chelsea changing room and explained the importance seeing people for who they are, rather than what they look like.
The groups of children worked on poems in the workshop and the final stanza from one of those poems suggested the message had got through loud and clear.
"Young old, any age works
Being unique definitely comes first"
Premier League Primary Stars is a national curriculum-linked education programme that uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.
Diversity is just one of the key elements of the programme.
PL Primary Stars provides free downloadable resources which are available for teachers across Key Stages 1 and 2 in English, Maths, PE and PSHE and add to the existing support that clubs in the Premier League and beyond are providing on a daily basis to primary schools and their local communities.
