Steve Agnew says his Middlesbrough team can pull off a great escape to rival that of Leicester City and Sunderland in recent seasons.
Middlesbrough face Arsenal on Monday evening in 19th, six points off safety, but the head coach believes his side can emulate Leicester’s 2014/15 feat of climbing off the bottom with 19 points from their last eight matches, while Sunderland won four of their final five matches to escape the drop in 2013/14.
“It has happened in recent seasons with Sunderland and Leicester,” Agnew said. “That one win that we’ve been waiting for, it can literally change lots of things and it can affect other teams as well so that’s what we aim to do."
