“It feels really good to be a Brentford player,” Valdimarsson told the club's official website.
“Walking around here, seeing the staff and some of the players, it’s just really exciting. The first impression has been really good.
“After speaking with Manu [Sotelo, goalkeeper coach] and Thomas Frank, I really like how the club works and how they develop players.”
Valdimarsson was named goalkeeper of the year in the Swedish top flight in 2023 and has been capped five times by his country.
Last season he kept 13 clean sheets, the most in the division and his save percentage of 78 was a competition-high, as Elfsborg finished runners-up to Malmo on goal difference.
He is the Bees' third signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of Turkish midfielder Yunus Konak from Sivasspor and left-back Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur.
Brentford’s next Premier League match is away to Spurs on Wednesday 31 January.
