Callum Hudson-Odoi earned Nottingham Forest a point as they drew 1-1 at AFC Bournemouth to move two points clear of the bottom three.

Justin Kluivert opened the scoring for the Cherries, but Hudson-Odoi levelled with a sweetly-struck shot on the stroke of half-time.

Bournemouth substitute Philip Billing was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Hudson-Odoi with six minutes remaining, but Andoni Iraola’s side held on for a second consecutive 1-1 draw.

How the match unfolded

Iraola made two changes from the side that drew at West Ham United, with Luis Sinisterra and Kluivert coming in for Marcus Tavernier and Alex Scott.

As for Forest, new signing Matz Sels started in goal, while fellow January arrivals Giovanni Reyna and Rodrigo Ribeiro were named among the substitutes. Taiwo Awoniyi returned in attack after scoring off the bench in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal as one of six changes.

It only took Bournemouth five minutes to open the scoring, with Sinisterra’s corner taking a touch off Forest’s Neco Williams before falling to Kluivert, who finished at the far post.

Forest responded well to the early setback, with Awoniyi forcing two saves from Neto before Ryan Yates missed a glorious chance to equalise, poking tamely at the Bournemouth 'keeper.

But the visitors did score a deserved equaliser on 45 minutes through Hudson-Odoi.

Bournemouth were unable to clear a free-kick, and after picking up the ball just outside the penalty area, Hudson-Odoi drove forward before whipping a superb shot into the bottom-right corner for his first Premier League goal since September.

Both sides struggled to create clear-cut openings in the second half, with Awoniyi hesitating when presented with a sight of goal.

Billing was shown a red card late on, but Forest were unable to take advantage, with Morgan Gibbs-White scuffing a shot straight at Neto, as both sides had to settle for a point.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team stay 16th on 21 points, six fewer than Bournemouth, who remain 12th.
