Black players in the Premier League receive racial abuse online on a regular basis.
During the Premier League’s No Room For Racism campaign Luton Town showed a cross-section of their staff some of the horrific messages that their players had received.
It shocked them but those messages also made them more resolved to unite as a club, as a family, as a community and fight against such discrimination.
You can watch the video below, but be warned, it contains offensive language.
The messages that were seen by the Luton staff were reported to the Premier League.
The Premier League investigates cases of abuse all over the world. Since 2020, more than 2,500 incidents of online abuse against Premier League players, their families or staff have been investigated by the Premier League’s dedicated team.
And for those who think it is acceptable to abuse footballers online, there are serious consequences: these include a criminal sentence; bans from clubs; or losing your job.
Fans can now also report such incidents of abuse that they see directly to the Premier League.
You can submit a report by at premierleague.com/reportracism.
We have also produced simple guides to fans to report any racial abuse directly on the social media platforms where they are encountered.
