West Ham United have announced that manager David Moyes will leave the club at the end of the season by mutual consent.
The 61-year-old is departing upon the expiration of his contract and is leaving the London Stadium after four and a half years in charge during which he guided the club to two top-seven Premier League finishes, as well as quarter-final and semi-final places in the UEFA Europa League and victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League last season.
“I have enjoyed four and a half brilliant years at West Ham, and the club is in a stronger position than when I returned back in 2019,” Moyes said on the club's official website.
“When I joined West Ham for a second time, the club was one place above the relegation zone, and it has been a terrific journey to have achieved three consecutive seasons in Europe.
“After leading the club to safety, we guided the team to finishes of sixth and seventh in the Premier League, and I was delighted when we won the Europa Conference League title last June – the club’s first major trophy in 43 years.
“I would like to thank all the players for their support, and all the success they have achieved, over the last four and a half years.
“I have really enjoyed working with everyone at West Ham, and I would like to thank the Board for giving me the opportunity to manage this great club.
“I wish my eventual successor, the directors, the players, the staff, the fans, and everybody at West Ham, all the very best for the future.”
West Ham have also said that they have begun the recruitment process to appoint Moyes' successor.
Moyes' history at West Ham
Moyes had two spells as manager of West Ham, with his first coming in November 2017.
At the time he took over the Hammers with the club in the bottom three, but guided them to 13th place by the end of the 2017/18 season.
On 16 May 2018, West Ham confirmed the departure of Moyes.
But in December 2019 the Scot returned, taking over from Manuel Pellegrini at the London Stadium with the Hammers sitting in 17th place.
He secured West Ham's Premier League status that season before enjoying superb campaigns in 2020/21 and 2021/22.
Only Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson have taken charge of more Premier League matches than the 697 that Moyes will have managed by the season's end.
He has also won 10 Barclays Manager of the Month awards, which is the joint-fourth most of all managers in the competition's history.
