Manchester City have completed the signing of Brazil international Savinho on a five-year deal from French club Troyes.

The 20-year-old winger shone on loan in Spain's LaLiga last season, helping Girona to their best-ever finish of third.

Savinho scored nine goals and registered 10 assists in 37 league matches. Additionally, he completed the most dribbles in the league, with 104, 18 more than any other player.

He is City's first summer signing and will bolster Pep Guardiola's options on the left wing, competing with the likes of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku for a starting spot.

"I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City, the Premier League champions and Club World Cup winners. Everyone knows they are the best team in the world right now," he told Man City's official website.

“I’m excited about the chance to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest coaches ever, and someone I know will help me improve even more.

“I had an amazing time in Spain and I’m looking forward to a new challenge of playing in the Premier League and alongside some of the best players in the world."

Man City director of football, Txiki Begiristain, added: “Savinho is a very exciting player and I think the City fans are really going to enjoy watching him.

“We are totally confident in his ability. He is still young and has the potential to become even better, and everyone knows that Pep is the best at helping players develop even further."

Savinho will wear the No 26 shirt worn previously by Riyad Mahrez, one of his favourite players growing up.

Who is Savinho?

Also known as "Savio", he was born in Sao Mateus, Brazil, on 10 April 2004.

He began his youth career at Atletico Mineiro and signed his first professional contract with the club at the age of 16.

He made his senior debut as a substitute against Atletico Goianiense in September 2020 and scored his first goal against Independiente del Valle in the Copa Libertadores in May 2022.

Savinho joined French side Troyes in the summer of 2022, but spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Dutch club PSV.

The winger only made six Eredivisie appearances before moving on loan to Girona the following season.

During his time in Spain, he was compared to Real Madrid star and compatriot Vinicius Junior by Girona manager Michel.

"Since Vinicius Junior’s arrival in Spain, I haven’t seen such a great one-on-one talent like Savio," Michel said.

Savinho represented Brazil at Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 levels before making his senior debut against England in March 2024. He played at Copa America 2024, scoring his first senior goal in a 4-1 win against Paraguay.

2024/25 preparations

Man City get their pre-season under way with a friendly against Celtic on 23 July in North Carolina, as part of their tour to the United States.

The champions will then begin their title defence with a trip to Chelsea on Sunday 18 August.
