Premier League clubs have begun their preparations for the 2024/25 campaign, with Manchester United, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers taking part in their first matches of pre-season.
Here we take a look at how they fared in their first encounters.
Rosenborg 1-0 Man Utd
Erik ten Hag fielded two different teams in Man Utd's first match of pre-season, changing all of the outfield players at half-time as the Red Devils were beaten 1-0 by Rosenborg in Trondheim, Norway.
Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jonny Evans were among the senior players to feature in the first half.
Rosenborg provided a stern test for United throughout, with Ole Saeter having a goal ruled out for offside, while they also hit the woodwork three times.
Man Utd goalkeeper Radek Vitek produced some excellent saves, the best of which was a superb one-handed stop from Sverre Nypan.
Rosenborg's pressure finally told when Vitek was beaten by Noah Holm's close-range finish in the third minute of stoppage time.

Assists: N/A
First-half line-up: Vitek, Wan-Bissaka, Fish, Evans, Murray, Casemiro, Mejbri, Williams, Mount, Rashford, Wheatley.

'The players should perform better'
While Ten Hag recognised that his side were shy of match fitness, he was still disappointed with the performance.
"I have seen that this is not the standard for top football," he told the official club website. "In top football we have much higher standards, as an individual you must make sure you are fit.
"I know you cannot be match fit in this moment, so we need these games to get there.
"I know we are playing against players who are already going in their league - they have a much higher fitness level. But still we are Man Utd, and players from Man Utd should perform better."
The Red Devils are next in action on Saturday 20 July against Rangers.
Walsall 0-3 Aston Villa
Morgan Rogers struck a first-half brace as Villa started their preparations with a comfortable win against Walsall.
Rogers opened the scoring after 21 minutes when he latched onto Ross Barkley's quick free-kick before poking the ball home.

Spurs' response was swift, and Will Lankshear, Mikey Moore, Djed Spence and Ashley Phillips were all on target in a resounding win.

Callum Hudson-Odoi shone after coming on at half-time, having created two of their three goals. His first was a perfectly-weighted pass in behind Chesterfield's defence to Wood, who rounded the goalkeeper before slotting into an empty net.

Wolves 1-0 Como 1907
Matt Doherty scored the only goal to give 10-man Wolves a 1-0 win over Cesc Fabregas' Como 1907.
Wolves head coach Gary O'Neil used a different line-up in each half and gave debuts to summer signings Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen, the latter of whom had a goal ruled out for offside on the stroke of half-time.
Wolves also had goalkeeper Dan Bentley to thank after he turned Samuel Ballet's effort onto the crossbar before Hugo Bueno cleared off the line from the club's former attacker Patrick Cutrone.
Doherty scored the decisive goal when he met Rayan Ait-Nouri's free-kick with a thumping header at the far post with an hour gone.
The match was overshadowed by an allegation of racism, with Wolves' Hwang Hee-chan reporting a racist remark midway through the second half, leading to angry reactions from his team-mates, and Daniel Podence being sent off.
