FPL experts: Which players offer the best value in 2024/25?

The Scout's panel of Fantasy Premier League experts each reveal their three best-value picks and then explain their choices.

Christopher Nkunku (£6.5m) will make a mockery of his price tag. Even if he was still a forward, many would be thinking of picking him. With his reclassification as a midfielder on top of that, I'm all in. 

Ezri Konsa (£4.5m) was last season's most-fouled defender so he should show up well in this season's revamped Bonus Points System. With Aston Villa's defence up there as one of the league's best, he looks a snip at £4.5m.

Leon Bailey (£6.5m) looks good for regular starts, especially if Villa don't sign a replacement for Moussa Diaby. Bailey returned 19 goal involvements last season and that would suggest he could easily have come in £1.0m or £1.5m more than his current price tag.

After the trip to Manchester United is out of the way, Fulham play two promoted sides, followed by two home matches. Rodrigo Muniz's (£6.0m) numbers towards the end of last season were up there with the premium forwards. 

With Michael Olise no longer at Crystal Palace, Eberechi Eze (£7.0m) takes over even more responsibility and is likely to be on set-piece duties and penalties.

I also like Morgan Gibbs-White (£6.5m) as Nottingham Forest play AFC Bournemouth, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers in their first three matches. Gibbs-White is likely to be on penalties and set-pieces as well.

Konsa proved himself as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League after playing a big part in Villa's run to UEFA Champions League qualification last season, and then earning himself a place in England's EURO 2024 squad, where he excelled in the match he played. 

At only £5.5m there are no other forwards at this price who were as effective as Joao Pedro last campaign, with nine goals. In a season where owning premium players will really stretch the budget, the Brighton & Hove Albion man is the perfect enabler as a third forward.

Morgan Rogers (£5.0m) is a name that people are starting to talk about more and more. He caught the eye at the end of last season and has carried on this form in pre-season. His price represents a bargain for this rising star if he can become a mainstay in Villa's side.

If Ollie Watkins (£9.0m) had come in at £10.0m I don't think there would have been many complaints. At £9.0m he feels like exceptional value even if he doesn't reach the 19 goals and 18 assists he produced last season.

Second is Nkunku. Enzo Maresca has said the Frenchman can play in multiple positions, including No 9, although the early indications are he will likely play in attacking midfield roles. Nevertheless, at £6.5m, he has the pedigree to achieve numbers way beyond his price tag. 

My third pick is Anthony Gordon (£7.5m), who is a full £1.0m cheaper than Alexander Isak (£8.5m) despite outscoring him last season. The winger has sensational home form and is my favourite option in the price band.

Nkunku could be a regular starter for Chelsea, who have a fantastic run of fixtures after they play Manchester City first up.

I'd then go for a £4.5m goalkeeper and a £4.0m defender. Taylor Harwood-Bellis (£4.0m) plays Nott'm Forest and Ipswich Town at home in Southampton's first five matches, so he's a genuine option to rotate alongside another defender.

Finally, Muniz was in red-hot form last season, and Fulham start with three home matches in the opening four weeks, while also visiting Ipswich.

Vitalii Mykolenko is a steal at £4.5m and is the best defender at that price, thanks to Everton's strong defensive numbers.

Nkunku has a great price at £6.5m and is looking great in pre-season, as he did this time last year before picking up an injury.

I also really like Rogers. He has the ability to be this season's bargain gem. Three goals and one assist in pre-season already for the Villa winger are a great sign of things to come potentially.

Forest were fourth-best for Expected Goals Conceded (xGC) after Nuno Espirito Santo took charge last season. At only £4.5m and owned by 0.9 per cent, if goalkeeper Carlos Miguel (£4.5m) cements the No 1 spot, he's straight in my team.

Second is Mykolenko. He had more points per match last season than both James Tarkowski (£5.0m) and Jarrad Branthwaite (£5.0m), who are £0.5m more expensive, and he has a nice home fixture in Gameweek 1 against Brighton.

Rogers impressed for Villa after he was signed in January, with a run of consecutive starts. He's looking sharp in pre-season and is only £5.0m. He's a perfect fifth midfielder to start or have first on your bench.

At just £6.5m, Nkunku could be the bargain of the season. Let's hope he can have an injury-free campaign.

Lisandro Martinez (£4.5m) came in at £0.5m less than I expected so he should offer good value over the course of the season.

If we're going to fit in all the big-hitters then we need enablers, and Southampton's penalty-taker Adam Armstrong (£5.5m) could be a great one.

I was really impressed with Rogers when he came into the Villa side towards the end of last season, and three goals and an assist in 11 appearances is a good return for the £5.0m man. There are a few question marks about his role with Emiliano Buendia (£5.5m) and Jacob Ramsey (£5.5m) returning from injury, but he's started pre-season strongly and I expect him to start the season at least.

Armstrong is on penalties and is the focal point for the Southampton attack. At £5.5m he presents little risk for investors.

James Justin (£4.5m) has Premier League experience already and is likely to be playing as an attacking left wing-back or as a left-winger under new manager Steve Cooper.

Nkunku, Brennan Johnson (£6.5m) and Rogers could be the value picks of the season.

A few weeks into the season the same could be said for picking Phil Foden (£9.5m) over Erling Haaland (£15.0m), and having Diogo Jota (£7.5m) or Luis Diaz (£7.5m) instead of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). Having these assets who are cheaper than their team-mates frees up so much money and allows managers to strengthen their whole squad.
