What did he have to say?
“There is so much history here, and the team have done so well in the Premier League and in Europe over recent years,” Summerville told the official club website.
“I spoke to the head coach, and he convinced me that I could make an impact, and help achieve success in the new season.
“I think I'm here to help write more history here, and I'd love to help West Ham get back into Europe. I want to contribute lots of goals and assists, and I'm so excited to meet my team-mates and the fans, and get out there now.”
Who is Crysencio Summerville?
Born on 30 October 2001 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Summerville spent 10 years in Feyenoord’s youth academy before signing his first professional contract with the club in 2018.
He failed to make a senior appearance for Feyenoord, going out on loan to FC Dordrecht and ADO Den Haag.
Summerville joined then-Premier League side Leeds United in September 2020, making his league debut a year later against Newcastle United.
While in the top flight, he made 34 appearances and scored four goals, including a dramatic late winner against Liverpool at Anfield, handing the Reds their first home Premier League defeat in 30 matches.
After relegation in 2022/23, Summerville shone in the Championship for Leeds last season, scoring 19 goals and registering nine assists, the third-most goal involvements of any player in the competition.
He went on to win the Championship Player of the Season as Leeds fell just short of promotion back to the Premier League, losing 1-0 to Southampton in the playoff final.
Summerville was the only player to create 100+ chances and complete 100+ take-ons in the Championship last season.
A Dutch youth international, Summerville won the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship and has since gone on to represent the Netherlands at Under-21 level.
What kind of player is he?
Summerville is a winger who mainly operates on the left flank. Known for his dribbling ability, speed and power in one-on-one situations, he is able to produce moments of quality.
West Ham’s 2024/25 transfer activity
Summerville joins Wes Foderingham, Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme and defender Maximilian Kilman as summer signings.
Meanwhile, defenders Angelo Ogbonna, Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer, along with midfielders Said Benrahma and Flynn Downes, have all left the club.
