Brentford have signed Portuguese attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool on a five-year deal, with a club option to extend by a further 12 months.

The 21-year-old becomes the Bees' second senior summer arrival, after striker Igor Thiago.

“Fabio is a player with a lot of qualities,” Brentford head coach Thomas Frank told the official club website.

“He can play in all of the front three or four positions in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. His best position is probably as a No 10 or coming in from the left.

"Offensively, he has great abilities on the ball: he can go past players, slide a pass, create chances and get on the end of chances. He's a type of player that we don't have many of in the squad so he will add that something extra for us.

"His ability and mentality to work hard in the pressure is also very, very good. That's along with him ticking all the boxes from a cultural perspective and being the right character.”

Carvalho progressed through west London rivals Fulham's Academy before making his senior debut for the Cottagers in 2020 in an EFL Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday.

He made four Premier League appearances for Fulham in the 2020/21 season before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2022.

During the 2022/23 campaign, he featured 13 times in the top flight for the Reds, while he spent the first half of last season on loan at German side RB Leipzig before moving to Hull City in the Championship for the second half of 2023/24.

Brentford open the season with a London derby at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Buonanotte joins Leicester on loan

Leicester City have signed Argentinian attacker Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old becomes the Foxes' fifth summer arrival as he looks to secure regular first-team football.

“It’s a big opportunity for me and for this reason I had no doubts about coming," Buonanotte told the official club website.

"I spoke a lot with the manager and he filled me with confidence about the club - it was an easy decision for me to come here. I believe it was also an important factor in my decision [to gain more minutes on the pitch].”

Promoted Leicester begin their Premier League campaign at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday 19 August.
