Manchester City have won the 2024/25 FA Community Shield, beating rivals Manchester United 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium.
Bernardo Silva sent the contest to a shootout after equalising in the 89th minute, cancelling out Alejandro Garnacho's strike as Man City win the trophy for the first time since 2018.

How the match unfolded
Strong line-ups were named by both Pep Guardiola and Erik ten Hag, with Ederson, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland in City's starting XI. Summer signing Savinho was named on the substitutes bench.
Meanwhile Man Utd included Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez in their team while Joshua Zirkzee, who arrived from Bologna in July, was on the bench.
City started on the front foot with winger Oscar Bobb firing over the crossbar after getting past Martinez and Jonny Evans.
James McAtee also struck the frame of the goal after United gave the ball away in their own defensive third.
But United were always a threat and should have gone ahead through Amad Diallo, who opted to square the ball to Mason Mount to tap in instead of shooting but got his pass wrong.
In the second half, Fernandes had a superb long-range strike ruled out for offside and Rashford also hit a post after receiving a pass from Garnacho, who then decided to take matters into his own hands.
The Argentinian, who scored against Man City in the FA Cup final, drove through City's defence from the right before placing the ball into the bottom corner in the 82nd minute.
City fought back though, as Bernardo Silva rose highest to meet Bobb's cross and send the contest to penalties.
In the shootout, Silva missed for City while Ederson produced a superb stop to deny Jadon Sancho. After Evans' miss, Manuel Akanji converted the final spot-kick to end City's losing run in the competition, having tasted defeat in the past three seasons to Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester City.
City will also hope to buck a recent trend of recent Community Shield winners. None of the last five successors of this competition have gone on to win the Premier League that season.
And only one of the last 13 winners - Man City in 2018/19 - claimed the league title after winning the Community Shield.
