Ange Postecoglou is ready to end Tottenham Hotspur's 16-year wait for a trophy and is confident that his side are "better prepared" than last season.

Postecoglou has won silverware at every club he has managed, including most recently at Celtic, where he enjoyed back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles and League Cups in 2021/22 and 2022/23 before his appointment at Spurs last summer.

Speaking ahead of Spurs' Premier League opener at Leicester City on Monday, and boosted by the recent arrival of striker Dominic Solanke from AFC Bournemouth, Postecoglou is in a positive mood as he enters his second season at the club.

"Usually in my second season I win things," he told Sky Sports. "That's the whole idea. First year is about establishing principles and creating a foundation. Hopefully the second year is going onto win things.

"Of course it's easier said than done, particularly in the Premier League and the competition we're in. That's always the way I've looked at it, is that the second year you should be in a position where you can push on, depending on how the first year has gone."

Last season Postecoglou won three Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month awards, as he became the first boss ever to win the first three accolades available to him, but Spurs were unable to sustain the pace and finished fifth.

"Last year we had some really good moments, obviously we had some tough moments," he continued. "I think we learnt as much from the tough moments as we did from the good stuff and hopefully that means we're in a good place.

"We're definitely a better-prepared team than we were last year."

The addition of Solanke, who scored 19 goals and produced three assists in 2023/24 for Bournemouth, boosts a Spurs frontline that scored 74 league goals last season, the fewest of all the sides who finished seventh or higher.

"He's a top pro, a good guy and he's settled into the dressing room really well," said Postecoglou. "Footballing-wise you can see that he has the attributes that fit in with what we are trying to do.

"So far he's fitted in really well with the group, with training and so far so good."
