More than 400,000 managers in Fantasy Premier League have activated their Triple Captain chip, which triples your captain's points instead of doubling them, and can only be played once all season.

With Manchester City hosting promoted Ipswich Town in Gameweek 2, the vast majority of those managers are expected to use their chip on Erling Haaland (£15.0m) in his first home match of 2024/25.

Here, some of the world's top Fantasy managers offer their views on whether this is a good week to use the Triple Captain chip.

Given there will be fewer Double Gameweeks this season, I think it's viable to use the Triple Captain chip in a single Gameweek, and it doesn't get better than a fit Haaland with no midweek commitments before a home fixture to promoted Ipswich.

The question mark here for me is the Mystery Chip. If it is best utilised in a Double Gameweek then a Triple Captain in a single Gameweek is viable, but if not I'd always rather play it in a Double later in the season.

Verdict: Probably not

Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily)

There are a number of factors that play a part in making my decision to play the Triple Captain chip. Firstly, whether the player in great form. Secondly, is his team at full strength and playing well? Thirdly, is it an optimal fixture?

Right now, we have one and a half of these boxes ticked. We know Haaland is in good form - he told us it was the best he has felt heading into the season. However, I'm not sure this fixture is completely optimal. On paper, it's the perfect home match, but Ipswich were full of strength and fight against Liverpool in Gameweek 1 and I am not convinced they will roll over.

Haaland and City win, but I don't think they are at their best level right now. Rodri (£6.4m) is a doubt and there is uncertainty surrounding whether Phil Foden (£9.5m) starts. I will wait until later on in the season for a week where all my boxes are ticked.

Verdict: No

I'm not been tempted to use the Triple Captain chip this week. I think a Double Gameweek will provide a better opportunity, or even Man City playing at home against a side bereft of confidence and in terrible form. At the moment, Ipswich are full of fight following their promotion, so a big scoreline is far from guaranteed.

Verdict: No

Holly Shand (@HollyShand)

I've not seriously considered the Triple Captain chip this week. Rodri is a doubt for this game, and his absence generally weakens the side - they lost all three games he missed in 2023/24. I'm sure there will be a better opportunity later in the season.

Verdict: No

Gianni Buttice (@GianniButtice)

Yes, we will get fewer Double Gameweeks, and Ipswich at home may be as good a fixture as Haaland could ask for, but it feels way too early to play the Triple Captain chip, especially knowing City are nowhere near their best.

By their very high standards, City aren't in full flow yet, and might not be for a while, with so many players who were late back to join a very limited pre-season. So sure, we expect them to score goals against Ipswich, but the ceiling feels higher later in the season when all their key men are performing.

Verdict: No

Lee Bonfield (@FPLFamily)

It is definitely tempting to Triple-Captain Haaland at home to a promoted side. However, it feels a bit early for me and I would rather wait until the latter part of the season when we have more understanding of the impact of the FA Cup on the Double Gameweeks and what they look like.

Verdict: No
