Most passes, saves, shots and more - STANDOUT match displays in 2024/25

The 2024/25 season has produced plenty of scintillating football, with sensational skills, goals and saves across the opening 11 rounds of matches.

While Liverpool currently sit five points clear at the top of the table and are the standout team in the competition, there have been numerous impressive individual displays too, some of which have gone relatively unnoticed.

Cole Palmer scoring four first-half goals - the first time that has ever been achieved in the Premier League - made the headlines in Chelsea's 4-2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion, but did you know, for example, that Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans made an amazing 126 successful passes in their triumph over Everton?

That's a record for the division this season, as is Tielemans' tally of 34 passes into the final third during the same game.

Also, you may not know which players have won the most aerial duels in a single match. That would be AFC Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen and Everton centre-back James Tarkowski, both with nine successes.

Here we take a look at some of those stats that may not necessarily have stood out at the time, but are in fact the category leaders for matches in 2024/25.

Most goals in a match

Palmer leads the way with his four goals for Chelsea at home to Brighton in September.

Next on the list are the two players who have netted hat-tricks - Erling Haaland, against both Ipswich Town and West Ham United, and Palmer's team-mate Noni Madueke, who achieved the feat in a 6-2 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers back in August.

Most assists in a match

Palmer also has the most assists in a 2024/25 match, creating all three of Madueke's goals against Wolves.  

Most successful passes in a match

Tielemans is the most successful passer, completing a season-best 126 successful passes in Villa's 3-2 win against Everton in September.

Manuel Akanji, for Manchester City in August's 4-1 victory over Ipswich, and Jan Bednarek, for Southampton against Nottingham Forest, are the only other two players to have made more than 120 successful passes in a match.

Most passes into the final third

Tielemans also tops the chart for the most passes into the final third in a match this season with 34, also against Everton. Akanji, who registered 20 at West Ham in August, is in second place again.

Chances created

The north London rivalry between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal extends to the battle for most chances created, with Spurs' Dejan Kulusevski beating the Gunners' Bukayo Saka by one. Kulusevski created nine chances in September's 3-0 win at Man Utd, while Saka totalled eight as Arsenal beat Leicester City 4-2 in the same month.

Shots on target

Talking of local rivalries, players from the two Manchester clubs - United and City - lead the way for the most shots on target.

United's Alejandro Garnacho and City's Haaland are locked level with five each in their respective matches against Brentford and Southampton, ahead of four players on four.

Headed attempts (excluding blocks)

Haaland's attacking threat is evident again here, as the Norwegian sits second only to Fulham's Rodrigo Muniz, who tried to score with his head five times (excluding blocks) in the 2-1 win over Leicester. Man City forward Haaland had four headed attempts in last month's 1-0 win against Southampton.

Tackles won

Tyrick Mitchell of Crystal Palace and Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold may sit at opposite ends of the Premier League table, but the defensive duo are joint-top of the charts, with eight tackles won in their respective matches against Everton and Brighton, two more than Fulham's Antonee Robinson at Man Utd.

Most blocks 

Brentford's Nathan Collins and Leicester's Wout Faes are level for the most blocks in one match, recording six each against Liverpool and Palace respectively. Dara O'Shea holds second place in this category, with five blocks for Ipswich in their 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Leicester.

Aerial duels won

There is nothing to separate Huijsen and Tarkowski when it comes to winning aerial duels, with the Bournemouth and Everton defenders both being successful nine times in their respective matches against Nott'm Forest and Palace.

Most saves 

Mads Hermansen had a busy afternoon at Emirates Stadium, where the Leicester goalkeeper made a season-best 13 saves in their 4-2 defeat to Arsenal. Mark Flekken features twice in the rankings, after making multiple saves in Brentford's 2-1 defeats to Fulham (10) and Man Utd (nine).

Most Expected Goals On Target (xGOT) prevented 

Leicester's loss at Arsenal could have been worse had 'keeper Hermansen not recorded a total of 2.74 xGOT prevented. That makes him the clear leader in this category, ahead of Chelsea's Robert Sanchez, who totalled 2.48 on his way to keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win at Bournemouth.

Most fouled player in a match

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been fouled the most in a match - seven times in the Magpies' 1-0 win over Arsenal. The Brazil international dominates this chart, as he's also one of three players with six fouls against them - it happened to him in the matches at Bournemouth and at home to Southampton.
