Ruben Amorim acknowledged the "long journey" that will be required to return success to Manchester United as Nottingham Forest handed his team a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford.
Forest’s first win at Old Trafford in 30 years handed Amorim his first home league defeat in 23 matches since February 2023, when he was at Sporting. Forest had opened the scoring in the second minute thanks to Nikola Milenkovic before United pulled level through Rasmus Hojlund.
But again less than two minutes of the start of the first half, Morgan Gibbs-White restored Forest’s advantage after an error from goalkeeper Andre Onana, a lead which Chris Wood doubled.

A late goal from Bruno Fernandes was not enough to stop Amorim suffering back-to-back top-flight defeats for just the second time in his managerial career following on from Wednesday’s loss at Arsenal.
"Tough game," Amorim said. "We started really bad, the first play we suffered a goal and then it's hard to try to fight. We then controlled the game and had a lot of situations.
"We improved the movement in the last third. We managed to draw the game and then at half-time we were ready to go for the win and then started really bad. Two goals. Then we tried a lot of things with not a lot of quality.
"We didn't have many situations to score. Tough game in a tough moment but we have to continue the job.
"This is a long journey. We are improving in some aspects. We have to win games to help us improve the team.
"We are in the start of something so big that we pay attention to every detail. We already know it's a big job so we have to continue."
Why did Fernandes go off?
Amorim surprised many with his substitution of goalscorer Fernandes with Mason Mount as his team chased an equaliser, which the head coach put down to fatigue suffered by his captain.
"Bruno was too tired and I wanted [Mason] Mount to play that position of second midfielder who opens a bit on the left,” explained Amorim.
Next up in the league his team have a derby against Manchester City a week on Sunday.
