It took Alexander Isak on 25.95 seconds to score from kick-off in Newcastle United’s match at Ipswich Town but while it set a club record it wasn’t even the fastest goal of the season so far. In fact, it is not even in the top two.
Isak pounced as a cross from Jacob Murphy was not cleared by the Ipswich and finished the bouncing ball superbly for his eighth goal of the season.
But at almost 26 seconds the goal was a slouch compared with two scored by Brentford players.
Yoane Wissa holds the mark as scorer of the fastest goal this season, striking after only 22 seconds at Manchester City in September.
A week later, Wissa’s team-mate Bryan Mbeumo took a second longer to give Brentford the lead at Tottenham Hotspur.

Isak’s strike is the fourth-fastest for Newcastle in Premier League history but the Swede has taken over the record for the fastest away goal in the competition for the Magpies.
The earliest that a Newcastle player had scored away from home was Damien Duff, after 64 seconds at West Bromwich Albion in February 2009, or Shola Ameobi also scored in the second minute at Aston Villa in February 2006, albeit without the exact time being clear.
The overall leader for the fastest Newcastle goal in the Premier League is unlikely to be beaten, Alan Shearer charging down a Manchester City goalkeeper’s clearance in January 2003 inside 11 seconds.

Isak went on to score his first hat-trick at Newcastle, and the club's first in the league since Ayoze Perez against Southampton in April 2019. He is also only the second Swede to claim a treble in the Premier League since Freddie Ljungberg for Arsenal at Sunderland in May 2003.
It also took him to 10 Premier League goals this season and 23 in the calendar year. He is only four behind the record of 27 set by Shearer for most Premier League goals in a calendar year for the club.
