After more than a decade away, David Moyes is making a dramatic return to Everton, the club where he spent 12 years in charge.
It has been nearly 23 years since he succeeded Walter Smith as the Everton manager in March 2002, marking the beginning of a defining chapter in his career.
During his first stint, Moyes guided the Toffees to some of their best seasons in recent memory, including making the UEFA Champions League qualifying round in 2005 and the FA Cup final in 2009, losing 2-1 to Chelsea at Wembley.
Everton confirmed Moyes' return on Saturday, after the exit of Sean Dyche, with the club just one point above the relegation zone.
Third-most matches managed in Premier League history
Moyes is closing in on a significant milestone. He is just three matches away from becoming only the third manager in Premier League history to reach 700 matches in charge.
His landmark 700th match is set to be away to Brighton & Hove Albion on 25 January.
However, Moyes still has a long way to go before challenging the records of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.
To overtake Ferguson and claim second place in the all-time rankings, he would need to extend his Premier League tenure for another 114 matches.
