Ten KEY questions for the midweek matches

The Scout highlights the opportunities available for managers who have activated their Assistant Manager chip prior to Gameweek 27 of Fantasy Premier League.

Who is the best Assistant Manager for Gameweek 27?

If you are one of the 900,000 Fantasy managers who activated their Assistant Manager chip in Double Gameweek 25, there is now just one Gameweek remaining to earn more points.

On top of that, more than 700,000 managers have activated the chip in Gameweek 26 or 27. So who is the best pick for the midweek fixtures in Gameweek 27?

There are two tactics to consider with the Assistant Manager chip.

You can pick a top-five club with a favourable fixture - a tactic which is more reliable but has a low ceiling for points.

Alternatively, you can target managers from clubs who can earn table-bonus points - a riskier approach which has a greater ceiling.

Here you can see the four clubs (in bold) whose manager can earn table-bonus points against a team who are ranked at least five places higher in the Premier League table.

Gameweek 27 fixtures

Brighton v AFC Bournemouth
Crystal Palace v Aston Villa
Wolves v Fulham
Chelsea v Southampton
Brentford v Everton
Man Utd v Ipswich
Nott’m Forest v Arsenal
Spurs v Man City
Liverpool v Newcastle
West Ham v Leicester

Slot the most reliable pick

League leaders Liverpool have both the form and fixture to reward managers who are looking to invest in Arne Slot (£1.5m).

The Reds have collected more points in home matches than any other side ahead of their Anfield encounter with Newcastle United.

Potter v Leicester?

As evidenced by the weekend’s results, picking a manager whose team face a promoted opponent can be a profitable tactic.

All three of those sides – Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton – lost and conceded four goals in Gameweek 26 against Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively.

Indeed, that trio have been beaten in five of their last six matches, which lifts the prospects of the managers of their respective hosts in Gameweek 27, Manchester United, West Ham United and Chelsea.

West Ham’s Graham Potter (£0.5m) could be the most reliable of the three here. Whereas Chelsea lost their last match, and Man Utd drew with Everton, the Hammers won 1-0 away to Arsenal.

They now host a Leicester side who have conceded 32 goals in away matches – eight more than both Ipswich and Southampton.

Glasner the best for table bonus?

As mentioned earlier in the article, only four managers can collect table-bonus points in Gameweek 27.

This applies to Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner (£0.8m), Spurs' Ange Postecoglou (£1.1m) and Wolverhampton WanderersVitor Pereira (£0.8m), as well as Southampton's Ivan Juric (£0.5m).

Glasner, Postecoglou and Pereira guided their clubs to wins at the weekend, with both the Palace and Wolves head coaches collecting table-bonus points against Fulham and AFC Bournemouth respectively.

Glasner arguably has the best fixture of the trio this time around, at home to Aston Villa.

Villa have picked up just 14 points in away matches – only five other clubs have a worse record.

So, who is the best pick for Gameweek 27?

If you’re looking for a reliable source of points, albeit with a lower ceiling, then Slot has to be the top pick.

However, if you are willing to accept the riskier approach then Glasner appears the most likely to deliver another big return.
