Building a £100million Fantasy Premier League squad can seem at first daunting for managers, so The Scout looks at three popular strategies for your squad to stand up to the rigours of the early Gameweeks.
The top-heavy approach
A steady stream of goals is the lifeblood of every FPL squad, so it is tempting to pour much of your £100m budget into attack and swoop for three big-name strikers.
But how to prioritise goals while still keeping a balance elsewhere?
A tight defence
Managers can easily save precious funds between the posts by limiting themselves to a £8.5m goalkeeper budget.
Ideally, you find an active £4.0m goalkeeper but, if not, a strong £4.5m selection with readiness to use a transfer here later.
You also need to tighten up your defence.
With three up front, you know you are likely to play 3-4-3 each Gameweek.
So the strategy is to find two assured defensive options, at £6.0m and £5.0m, and then alternate two £4.5m defenders, according to the favourable fixtures.
Key man: Rob Elliot (NEW) £4.0m
Midfield value
While your spend in midfield is kept under control, you are still allowing ourselves two expensive targets.
The selection of players at £9.0m and £8.0m is vital. They must show consistency and ideally outperform their price tags.
You also need to move quickly for any value options who stand out over the early Gameweeks.
Key man: Mohamed Salah (LIV) £9.0m
Goal-a-match forwards
This is where your squad will succeed or fail.
With £34.5m tied up in attack, you should reasonably expect a goal-a-match return from each of your three strikers.
Should their points-per-match average lag behind some big-ticket midfielders, you can then downgrade in price and shift funds.
Similarly, you also need to watch for any early bargains in attack and be prepared to let a big name go to exploit that value.
