Tom Heardman scored four goals as Newcastle United claimed a 6-3 victory over Swansea City in Group D of the Premier League Cup at Northumberland FA.

Peter Beardsley's side went ahead with two goals in two minutes, from Jack Colback and Callum Roberts, before Liam Cullen halved the deficit for Swansea.

The Magpies grabbed another quickfire double shortly before half time, striker Heardman registering on both occasions before completing his hat-trick just after the break.

Although Cullen netted for a second time at the other end, Heardman made it 6-2 with 20 minutes left before Swansea's Adnan Maric completed the scoring.

Newcastle's first win of the group stage leaves them three points behind leaders Burnley and three above Swansea and Colchester United, who have both lost their opening match in the competition.
