Everton were held to a goalless draw despite a dominant display in their Premier League Cup tie against Barnsley.

David Unsworth’s side had numerous chances to break the deadlock as Bassala Sambou, Josh Bowler, Fraser Hornby, Shayne Lavery (pictured) and Nathangelo Markelo all went close.

But the hosts could not find the back of the net on a frustrating night in Southport.

Everton lie second in Group F, four points behind leaders Leicester City, having played a match fewer.

Barnsley, who host the Toffees in the reverse fixture on Monday afternoon, are three points back at the foot of the table.
