Seamus Coleman played for an hour in his first match for 10 months as Everton beat Portsmouth 3-0 at Goodison Park.
The right-back, who suffered a broken leg playing for the Republic of Ireland in March, comfortably came through his comeback.
By the time he went off, the Toffees were 2-0 up thanks to Nathan Broadhead's neat finish and Bassala Sambou's superb strike.
Sambou sealed Everton's second Group F win with his second goal of the night.
The Toffees are second in the table on six points, four points behind leaders Leicester City with a match in hand.
